The record-shattering 2023 World Series of Poker (WSOP) Main Event saw 10,043 hopefuls create a prize pool that exceeded $93 million. The final 1,507 players finished in the money before beginning their chase to win the $12.1 million first-place prize and WSOP Main Event gold bracelet.

One player that will not be cashing in the biggest Main Event in WSOP history is Tom “durrrr” Dwan. Entering the WSOP Main Event as a late entrant on Day 2, Dwan ran his starting stack of 60,000 up to 426,500 by the end of Day 2D, which ranked him inside the top 50 of the 1,661 survivors.

Heading into Day 3, where the entire field was combined for the first time, Dwan began his day on the Horseshoe feature table alongside fellow poker professionals Johann Ibanez Diaz and five-time WSOP bracelet winner Adam Friedman.

After two levels of play, Dwan was moved to the WSOP Main Stage and was joined by Friedman and WSOP bracelet winner Quinn Do. Dwan was dealt king-five of spades in early position and raised before Brian Atchison three-bet with pocket aces.

Dwan called and flopped a flush draw before he check-called a bet and caught a pair of fives on the turn. Dwan checked, and Atchison bet once again. Dwan shoved with his pair and flushed draw - roughly a 30 percent underdog - and Atchison called with the best of it.

Dwan needed a king, five, or spade to stay alive, but the river bricked out the high-stakes legend, and his run in the 2023 WSOP Main Event was over.

Atchison parlayed his elimination of Dwan into an end-of-day chip stack of 965,000. Entering Day 4 in a great position to make a deep run, Atchison’s tournament concluded in 736th place, where he was awarded $27,500 in prize money.
