Perth Glory set to appoint Tony Popovic as coach image

Perth Glory are set to announce the signing of Tony Popovic as their new coach on a three-year contract, replacing the already-sacked Kenny Lowe.

Glory owner Tony Sage will make the appointment public of former Western Sydney Wanderers coach Popovic at the club's Most Glorious awards ceremony in Perth on Friday night, according to The West Australian.

Sage decided Lowe's time was up at the end of the campaign after the club missed the finals for the first time in three seasons, but still decided to retain the English-born coach as part of the academy.

The Glory are yet to win any silverware in the A-League era, only managing to make one league grand final and two FFA cup deciders.

News of Popovic's favouritism to replace Lowe was first reported by The Australian's Ray Gatt via his social media account.

The 44-year-old tactician has been out of job since being sacked from Turkish Super Lig side Karabukspor in December after only 11 games in charge.

Popovic, who was the inaugural coach of the Wanderers in 2012, left the club suddenly on the eve of the recent A-League season to take up the job in Turkey.

Despite only having five seasons in charge of the red-and-black, Popovic achieved extraordinary results, leading the club to an Asian Champions League title, an A-League premiership and three grand final appearances.
