Warrington Wolves enjoyed a much-needed confidence boost as they ran in 14 tries to crush Wakefield Trinity Wildcats 80-0 in Super League on Saturday.

Tony Smith's men had lost four in a row going into Saturday's encounter at the Halliwell Jones Stadium, but ended that streak in outstanding fashion against struggling Wakefield.

Richie Myler was the star of the show as he scored a hat-trick, while Gene Ormsby, Toby King and Ben Currie all contributed with doubles.

The hosts led 30-0 at the interval, and the Wildcats defence proved even more porous in the second half - Stefan Ratchford's 12th goal of the contest taking Warrington to the 80-point mark with two minutes remaining.

Wakefield have now suffered eight successive defeats and are three points adrift at the bottom of the table.

In Saturday's other fixture, Castleford Tigers built on victory over Warrington last time out to join the Wolves on 10 points with a 25-4 home win over Hull KR.

Rovers opened the scoring through Ken Sio's fourth-minute try.

However, that was to be as good as it got for the visitors as Jordan Tansey, Luke Gale, Nathan Massey and Frankie Mariano all went over for Daryl Powell's side.
