Tyron Woodley has been searching for a high-profile money fight and he just may have found it.

While the UFC welterweight champ had a rematch with Stephen “Wonderboy” Thompson at the back of his list of preferred fights – the two fought out a majority draw at 205 – he announced Tuesday morning that Wonderboy will get his rematch at UFC 209, slated for March 5, in Las Vegas.

“You will see ‘Wonderboy’ get the worst ass-whooping of his life,” Woodley said on the Morning Wood Show, which he hosts.

“And hopefully all of his fans and all of his over-entitlement deceases at that moment and we can do a eulogy for it.”

While UFC president Dana White was talking up a rematch immediately after the fight, it’s taken Woodley longer to come to the table.

“From this point forward, I’m going to commit to taking this dude out in the most embarrassing and worst fashion,” Woodley said.

“And with that said, that last fight is in the dust. I ain’t going to cry over spilled milk. I ain’t going to cry over what round, who did what, where, when, where. That fight is in the dust. It’s done, it’s over with.”

It’s been an underwhelming start to the year for UFC cards, with UFC 208 – originally scheduled to take place February 12 in Brooklyn – pushed back to August due to lack of suitable headline fights, with 209 and 210 jumping up a place to fill the gaps.

If you’re a Wikipedia believer, UFC 209 will have no such problem. In fact, put a big red circle around March 5 because it could be a barn burner.

While Woodley and Thompson will go at it again, Mark Hunt will also trade bombs with Alistair Overeem.

And here’s where it gets even juicier: Khabib Nurmagomedov and Tony Ferguson's fight is rumoured to have been signed off on.

The UFC 209 wikipedia page shows the lightweights as the lead-up to the main event.

While the UFC has not commented as of writing, if this comes off it would be huge, with the winner likely to have first crack at lightweight champ Conor McGregor when he returns.
