With red numbers the norm at the Zurich Classic of New Orleans, players could be excused for hearing a distance rumbling from Ohio.

Its source: Jack Nicklaus's comments that Tiger Woods will play The Memorial.

Woods surprised skeptics with a solid performance at the Masters, but has yet to announce his plans for coming events.

Leave that to Nicklaus, who broke the news of Woods' plans for the June 4-7 tournament at Muirfield Village.

The Golden Bear spilled the beans when he told reporters at an Ohio State fundraising event: "He said, 'See you in May. I'll be at the Memorial.' "

Here's what you won't see, according to the PGA Tour: Tiger going head to head against Rory McIlroy. The world's No. 1-ranked golfer is headed back to Europe.

Nicklaus fleshed out his conversation with Woods.

"He's been struggling," Nicklaus said. "We talked a little bit about that, but we talked more about his kids and events that are going on and we talked a little bit about what he's been doing working on his preparation. I've said many times, he'll be fine."

Though not official, it had been expected Woods would play The Memorial.

That chat, by the way, came at the Masters, in what Nicklaus said was “as much conversation as I’ve ever had with Tiger.”
