Champions St Helens start the defence of their Super League title on Friday, with a revamped format set to shake up the competition.
We preview what is sure to be an action-packed and intriguing campaign.
New Format
The Rugby Football League have introduced a three-tier system for 2015, with relegation and promotion back on the agenda between Super League, the Championship and a renamed third-tier, League One.
After 23 rounds of matches, the top two leagues - each comprising 12 teams - will be split into three groups of eight.
The teams from the top group in the 'Super Eights' stage are guaranteed a spot in the following year's Super League and will contest a further seven matches to produce semi-finalists ahead of the Grand Final.
In the middle group, the top three teams after seven round-robin matches will remain in Super League, while fourth will meet fifth to claim the 12th and final spot in a clash that has been dubbed "the £1million game".
St Helens out to defend the title
League logistics aside, the action on the pitch promises to be as exciting and intense as ever, with Saints looking to defend the crown they won last October by defeating fierce rivals Wigan Warriors 14-6 at Old Trafford.
Despite winning the League Leaders' Shield, St Helens - who start the new campaign against Catalan Dragons - were still considered underdogs ahead of the final due to Wigan's defensive strength and uncanny knack of winning the big matches.
The painful memories of five straight Grand Final losses for Saints between 2007 and 2011 were put to rest, though, as head coach Nathan Brown was given the perfect send-off ahead of his return to Australia.
Saints legend Keiron Cunningham is the man charged with replicating their 2014 success and the new coach may have played a shrewd hand by signing Travis Burns to partner former Penrith Panthers team-mate Luke Walsh in what should be an exciting half-back partnership - the latter hoping to make up for lost time after breaking his fibula and tearing ankle ligaments last July.
Can Wigan rebound?
What next for last year's runners-up Wigan? Perhaps the most intriguing topic with regards to the Warriors concerns how Ben Flower will rebuild his reputation after his Grand Final ended in disgrace.
Flower was sent off for landing two punches on Lance Hohaia in the second minute at Old Trafford, the second blow being delivered as his opponent lay prone on the turf.
The Wigan prop's actions sparked widespread condemnation and he was subsequently hit with a six-month suspension, ruling him out until April 14.
Elsewhere, the Warriors must also offset the loss of influential half-back Blake Green to Melbourne Storm.
However, the likes of Josh Charnley, Liam Farrell and Sean O'Loughlin remain part of Shaun Wane's squad, which will again feature a glut of local talent.
Who else will challenge?
Huddersfield Giants were just one point off top spot at the end of the regular season, but the fact they conceded 197 points more than second-placed Wigan shows the need to shore up defensively in 2015.
There have been few changes to the Giants squad, with coach Paul Anderson content to allow the current crop another shot after a disappointing play-off campaign.
Warrington Wolves made a shaky start to 2014, but came on strong before suffering an agonising 16-12 semi-final defeat to Wigan.
The arrivals of England hooker Daryl Clark and Fiji forward Ashton Sims will give fans at the Halliwell Jones Stadium cause for optimism, while Castleford Tigers - last year's surprise package - face the challenge of showing they can cope without Clark - last year's Man of Steel.
Leeds Rhinos struggled to maintain momentum after their Challenge Cup win in 2014, finishing sixth before losing to Catalan in the play-offs, and will be determined to bounce back.
A Magic move …
Fans of Super League's "Magic Weekend" will have a new venue to look forward to in 2015.
The Etihad Stadium hosted the last three editions of the extravaganza, which sees every Super League team go head-to-head at the same ground over the space of two days.
However, St James' Park - home of Premier League side Newcastle United - will now take over as the home for six fixtures on the weekend of May 30 and 31.
