A dispute over $600 prompted the punch that broke Geno Smith's jaw, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.
IK Enemkpali believed Smith owed him money and when Smith didn't pay up, Enemkpali retaliated. Now, he's out of a job with the Jets and Smith is headed to surgery.

ESPN analyst Cris Carter questioned Smith's "leadership" in the moments after the news broke. Multiple reports contradict coach Todd Bowles' "sucker punch" description of the incident. Bowles called the whole thing "childish" and as more developments become known, it appears he was right about that part.
Enemkpali did issue a formal apology via Twitter.
