Maria Sharapova, Eugenie Bouchard and Simona Halep enjoyed straight-sets wins as Sara Errani exited the Australian Open on Friday.
Kicking off the night session on Rod Laver Arena, Sharapova was untroubled as she dismissed 31st seed Zarina Diyas 6-1 6-1 in 61 minutes.
The second seed had saved match points in the second round against Alexandra Panova, but there would be no close call this time around as Sharapova clocked 22 winners to progress in style.
Canadian seventh seed Bouchard trailed by a break three times in the first set, which she battled through before recording a 7-5 6-0 win over Caroline Garcia on Rod Laver Arena.
A crowd favourite at Melbourne Park a year ago, Bouchard is on track to match her semi-final appearance of 2014.
Bouchard will face Irina-Camelia Begu, who beat 19-year-old German Carina Witthoeft 6-4 6-4 to continue her best ever run at a grand slam.
Halep moved into the fourth round despite a late hiccup against Bethanie Mattek-Sands.
The Romanian third seed was largely untroubled until late in her 6-4 7-5 victory, giving up a 5-2 second-set lead before recovering.
Halep will meet Yanina Wickmayer, who provided a surprise result by beating Italian 14th seed Errani 4-6 6-4 6-3.
Belgian Wickmayer had trailed by a set and a break before her comeback saw her reach the fourth round of a grand slam for the first time since 2011.
Ekaterina Makarova's love affair with Melbourne Park continued.
The Russian 10th seed overcame Karolina Pliskova 6-4 6-4 on Margaret Court Arena to make it five straight years in which she has reached at least the fourth round in Australia.
Makarova's latest win came in 68 minutes and on the back of a consistent display that saw her hit 17 winners.
Pliskova, the 22nd seed from the Czech Republic, committed 28 unforced errors and it proved costly.
Makarova will meet Julia Goerges, another player who seemingly enjoys the year's first grand slam more than any other.
The German battled past Lucie Hradecka 7-6 (8-6) 7-5 on Rod Laver Arena, booking her place in the fourth round of a major for just the third time.
The previous two occasions – 2012 and 2013 – were also in Melbourne.
Peng Shuai, the 21st seed from China, progressed with a 7-6 (9-7) 6-3 win over Yaroslava Shvedova.
