India paceman Mohammed Shami has been ruled out of his team's Cricket World Cup clash against UAE on Saturday.

Shami, 24, has starred with six wickets in his side's opening two games – both of which have been wins.

But the right-arm speedster will miss Saturday's encounter in Perth due to a left knee injury.

India's media manager confirmed the "mild left knee problem" in a statement released on Friday.

The statement said Shami missing the clash was from a "long-term management perspective".

Despite Shami's absence, India should be far too strong for UAE at the WACA, where they will be aiming to maintain their perfect record at the tournament so far.
