West Indies all-rounder Andre Russell believes his team proved a point in their 150-run win over Pakistan at the Cricket World Cup on Saturday.
Russell was the star in Christchurch, making 42 off 13 balls to help his team to 310-6 after they were put in to bat.
He also took 3-33 with the ball as Pakistan fell for just 160, having slumped to a dreadful 4-1 inside four overs.
After their surprise loss to Ireland in their opening game, Russell said the Windies had to show the world what they were capable of.
"It's very good [the mood in the squad]. Everyone is laughing, happy," he said.
"It's just always a fun dressing room, and I think from the last game things didn't go well for us, and we just turned up today and wanted to show the world that we are not just a pushover.
"We are always a good team and we can fight. It happened today, so it was a very good performance."
The West Indies got an even contribution from their batsmen, with Denesh Ramdin's 51 the top score.
But Chris Gayle (four) fell cheaply once more, as his poor run of form continued.
Russell said he was unfazed by the explosive left-hander's form, praising Gayle for the way he was handling himself despite struggling for runs.
"I think from the warm-up games Chris has been struggling, and you know, we're still scoring 300 runs and he's not performing," he said.
"Even Marlon Samuels who is one of our main batters as well, so I just think when these guys peak at the right time, West Indies has the ability to score over 350.
"I think once the way they keep motivating the team and the team spirit is very good.
"He's not moody. Chris is just an amazing guy that you share the changing room with.
"Even he's not scoring and he's not miserable, he's not grumpy. He's happy, he's laughing, and he's cheering everyone on the field, and that's what we want from a big guy like him, so it's very good."
