Long-serving Leeds Rhinos captain Kevin Sinfield will sensationally switch codes and join sister club Leeds Carnegie at the end of the season.
Sinfield has been at the club since 1996 and is nearing 500 appearances for the Super League side, having been made captain at 22.
However, after 12 titles and 19 finals appearances with Rhinos, the 34-year-old will spend next season at rugby union outfit Carnegie, who share the Headingley venue.
Sinfield confirmed the decision to join Championship side Carnegie on an 18-month deal on Tuesday, having recently embarked on what looks set to be his final Super League campaign.
The Rhinos skipper said in a statement: "This was one of the toughest decisions of my career, but I know the time is right for me to finish my time in rugby league and embark on a new challenge with Yorkshire Carnegie.
"I never wanted to play against the Rhinos and throughout my career I have always had an admiration for rugby union and wanted to challenge myself in that code.
"I am fortunate as a professional player in this era that opportunities like this exist for me and it is something I want to grab with both hands."
Sinfield will hope to wrap up his Rhinos career in style, with Brian McDermott's men top of the table after seven games.
