Leeds Rhinos fought back from a 14-point deficit to defeat Hull KR 40-30 in their opening Super League contest of the season on Sunday.
For the second season running the two teams met in the opening weekend at Craven Park and a record attendance for the stadium was treated to a pulsating contest.
The Rhinos made a positive start and Tom Briscoe touched down in the corner after great work from Kallum Watkins.
Hull KR wrested the initiative, though, with Albert Kelly twice crossing the line either side of a score from fellow debutant Mitch Allgood.
Kevin Sinfield scored under the posts after another Watkins assist, before Danny McGuire further cut the deficit for Leeds by completing an excellent team move.
However, the hosts went into the break 24-16 ahead thanks to a fine solo score from new half-back Terry Campese and the lead was stretched after the restart thanks to an interception score from Kris Welham in the 44th minute.
Leeds responded and McGuire started the comeback with his second score and great centre play by Watkins resulted in another try and Leeds cutting the gap to two points.
Zak Hardaker's try put the Rhinos back in front and a converted Brad Singleton try in the closing stages added further gloss for Brian McDermott's men.
Hull FC captain Gareth Ellis celebrated his 250th Super League appearance with a 19-0 victory at Huddersfield Giants.
Fetuli Talanoa scored the only try of a tight opening period, before full-back Jamie Shaul stole the show in the second half with two tries in the space of seven minutes.
Wakefield Trinity Wildcats produced a rousing comeback to overturn a 16-6 half-time deficit and beat Castleford Tigers 24-22 at Wheldon Road.
Paul McShane, Pita Godinet, Ali Lauitiiti and Danny Washbrook all crossed for James Webster's side.
