It was a night of mixed emotions for Zalgiris Kaunas as they suffered an 88-71 defeat to Real Madrid in the Euroleague on Thursday.
Former point guard Sarunas Jasikevicius - who is now assistant coach of Kaunas - was named a Euroleague basketball legend ahead of the Top 16 contest at the Zalgirio Arena,
However, Jasikevicius. a four-time continental champion, could only watch on courtside as leaders Real went 6-1 in Group E and edged ever closer to the last four.
The two teams were all-square at 47-47 at half-time, but the Spanish team put on a rousing third-quarter showing n which they outscored Kaunas 25-13.
Rudy Fernandez led the way for Real with 17 points, while Felipe Reyes (16) and Andres Nocioni (15) also provided valuable contributions as Kaunas slipped to 2-5.
Barcelona recovered from last weekend's comprehensive defeat to rivals Real with a comfortable 82-70 victory against Galatasaray.
Just two points separated the teams by the end of the first quarter, but Barca stepped up a gear to outscore their Turkish opponents 30-19 in the second at the Palau Blaugrana.
