Kevin Pietersen fell for just 19 on his County Championship return with Surrey as he continues his bid to return to the England team.
The maverick batsman scored 170 against Oxford Marylebone Cricket Club Universities in a warm-up fixture last week, and would have been eager to make another statement in Surrey's County Championship Division Two opener against Glamorgan in Cardiff on Sunday.
Pietersen went in at number four to join Sri Lanka great Kumar Sangakkara crease, but lasted only 37 deliveries before falling to Craig Meschede.
The South-Africa born star, who had his England central contract cancelled last year, has made no secret of his desire to return to Test cricket and linked up with Surrey to try and force his way back onto the international stage.
