National selector James Whitaker and managing director Paul Downton on Saturday confirmed there is "no chance" of Pietersen playing for his country again.

Those admissions came despite Alastair Cook being replaced as one-day international captain by Pietersen's friend Eoin Morgan.

Yet the batsman is not about to give up hope and he took to Twitter to voice his opinions on Sunday

He said: "Despite the rather disrespectful comments by Paul Downton and James Whitaker yesterday, I remain determined to regain my England place!"

Former Australia batsman Matthew Hayden revealed on Sunday that he is amazed that Pietersen has been overlooked by England.

"It's ludicrous Kevin Pietersen is not in the England squad." Hayden told  BBC's Sportsweek programme.

Pietersen has played 104 Tests, 136 one-day internationals and Twenty20s over a successful England career.
