France's state railway company (SNCF) has called for cyclists who rode around closed level crossing barriers as a train approached during the Paris-Roubaix to face police action.
A group at the front of the peloton, featuring French national champion Arnaud Demare, navigated the barriers at a crossing close to the northern French town of Wallers just before a high-speed TGV train passed through.
The peloton was separated as a result, with a number of riders being struck by a falling barrier before police then preventing any more from crossing.
Although three riders were punished for a similar offence in 2006, race organisers have stated that no competitors will be disciplined for their actions this time around.
But a statement from SNCF read: "Several riders deliberately, and against all safety rules, crossed a closed safety barrier.
"Millions of television viewers saw live this extremely serious and irresponsible action which could have been tragic.
"A few seconds later, a TGV ran on this line and could have hit the peloton."
The race was won by Giant-Alpecin's John Degenkolb.
