New South Wales have recalled Sydney Roosters half-back Mitchell Pearce for the State of Origin series opener against Queensland.

Pearce has been named at five-eighth for game one at ANZ Stadium on May 27, partnering Trent Hodkinson in the halves.

Canterbury Bulldogs prop David Klemmer is set for his debut – albeit off the bench – while his club team-mate Josh Jackson will also make his first Origin appearance.

Jackson replaces the injured Paul Gallen at lock, with Robbie Farah taking on captaincy duties for NSW in the series opener.

Blues coach Laurie Daley is confident Pearce can play a role as New South Wales look for back-to-back series wins.

"He's a guy who I've got a lot of time for and I know he can add a lot of value to this team," Daley said.

Queensland, who had won eight straight series before last year's loss, stuck with their core group of players.

But Brisbane Broncos forward Josh McGuire has been named to his make Origin debut.

The Maroons are led by their stars, including the likes of Greg Inglis, Johnathan Thurston, Billy Slater, Cooper Cronk and Cameron Smith.
