While pre-season NFL cuts outside of the Jarryd Hayne circus rarely make news, McLeod Bethel-Thompson getting sent on his way is an exception – even if it’s not particularly uncommon.

The Philadelphia Eagles cut Bethel-Thompson this week, making it the ninth time an NFL team has cut the QB, nicknamed McBLT.

It was only a matter of time before this happened with the Eagles, as they already have Sam Bradford, Chase Daniel and Carson Wentz, the second pick in the 2016 NFL Draft, on the books heading in to training camp.

Those three will make close to $US 60M combined this year.

In addition to the Eagles, McBLT has had three different stints with the 49ers, two with the Dolphins, two with the Vikings and one with the Patriots since he turned pro in 2011.

He also spent time with the San Jose SaberCats, an Arena Football team, and the Sacramento Mountain Lions, who play in the United Football League.

The Eagles also cut offensive lineman Brett Boyko, and signed tight end M.J. McFarland and linebacker Ty Powell.

Here, via SB Nation, is a timeline of persistence.
