More: Fifitas stood down
Fifita was accused of abusing the referee but says his side of the story will soon be told.
Speaking to Channel 9 reporter Danny Weidler, Fifita says he has given a written statement to the NRL and claims the rival team, St Mary’s, backs up his side of the story.
“A few people on the committee of that team have come forward and handed in statements which look to be pretty positive about us,” Fifita said.
“At the end of the day they’re meant to be our enemies, the opposition team and they have the right to throw us under the bus.”
Fifita and his brother David have come under fire since the allegations were made last weekend.
The brothers help out at St Patrick’s when they can, but have been slapped with a 12-month ban by Penrith juniors.
“It’s been a really troubling few days for myself and my family who have taken a toll,” Fifita continued.
“I’ve been branded since Saturday with a really bad look. Everyone’s heard the one side this whole time since it happened last Saturday.
“The main thing out of it is I’ve given my statement to the NRL, and it’s just getting it off my chest.
“It’s gonna come out well and truly when the NRL bring it out and to me that’s the only person who really needs it at the moment.
“When it does come out it’ll be a big relief.”
Weidler asked exactly what happened, but the Sharks forward remained tight-lipped.
“I was told you actually wanted to snap his phone because it was in your face. Is that correct,” Weidler asked.
“Look Danny you’re pretty close to the mark usually and at the end of the day the NRL have my statement.”
