Andy Murray breezed into the Australian Open third round, crushing Marinko Matosevic in straight sets on Wednesday.

Murray, the Brit sixth seed, was the beneficiary of an error-riddled performance by the Australian on Margaret Court Arena.

From the moment he raced through the first set in 21 minutes, Murray was never likely to be troubled and he eased to a 6-1 6-3 6-2 victory.

The focus in the lead-up was on Matosevic's criticism of Murray's decision to appoint a woman - Amelie Mauresmo - as coach.

As expected, that mattered naught - Murray finished with 21 winners, yet Matosevic's 49 unforced errors were decisive.

Matosevic looked off his game from the outset, and Murray capitalised to open up a double-break 4-0 lead.

In those 12 minutes, Matosevic compiled 11 unforced errors and won just three points.

The local hope finally got on the board in the sixth game, but Murray cruised through the first set.

The two-time grand slam winner was solid and that was all he had to be, dropping just one point on serve for the set.

Matosevic picked up in the second set where he left off in the first, a double fault seeing him slip behind 0-40 in his first service game.

He fought back to deuce but was broken as Murray took complete control of the match.

Murray broke serve again to take a 4-1 lead and Matosevic had no answers.

While Matosevic got one of those breaks back - he started to settle into the match - Murray never looked like dropping the set.

Matosevic's double fault gave Murray the break for 2-0 in the third, and he saw out victory in one hour 42 minutes.
