Los Angeles Angels outfielder Mike Trout showed why he is the face of baseball with his performance in MLB.

With the first of two home runs on the night, he became the youngest player in MLB history to reach 100 home runs and 100 stolen bases, as the Angels had a 6-3 win against the Houston Astros.

Elsewhere, Jose Iglesias's walk-off single saw the Detroit Tigers past the Chicago White Sox 2-1, while Wil Myers' three-run homer helped the San Diego Padres beat the Chicago Cubs 5-4.

The Cleveland Indians needed 11 innings to get past the Minnesota Twins 3-2, the Kansas City Royals overcame the Oakland Athletics 6-4 and the St Louis Cardinals thrashed the Cincinnati Reds 6-1.

Xander Bogaerts' walk-off single saw the Boston Red Sox overcome the Baltimore Orioles 3-2, the New York Mets made it six straight wins by beating the Miami Marlins 4-1 and Alex Rodriguez had a two-homer night to help the New York Yankees past the Tampa Bay Rays 5-4.

The Los Angeles Dodgers had their fifth straight win by defeating the Colorado Rockies 7-3, the Texas Rangers edged the Seattle Mariners 3-1 and the San Francisco Giants suffered their eighth straight loss by going down to the Arizona Diamondbacks 9-0.

A three-run eighth inning was decisive as the Pittsburgh Pirates edged the Milwaukee Brewers 6-3, Max Scherzer dominated to lead the Washington Nationals to a 7-2 win over the Philadelphia Phillies and the Atlanta Braves beat the Toronto Blue Jays 8-7.

IMPACT PLAYERS
Adrian Gonzalez, Los Angeles Dodgers: Gonzalez has arguably been the best hitter in MLB thus far. He went three-for-four with three runs and two RBIs in a 7-3 win against the the Rockies.

Alex Rodriguez, New York Yankees: Rodriguez, 39, showed he still has some gas in the tank. He went three-for-four with two home runs, four RBIs and two runs scored in a 5-4 win over the Rays.

David Price, Detroit Tigers: Price was nasty once again for the 9-1 Tigers. Though he did not get the win, Price pitched eight innings, allowing just one run and striking out nine.

KEY INJURIES
Tigers starting pitcher Justin Verlander has officially been ruled out for his next start on Tuesday. Still on the disabled list, it will be the second straight missed start for the 32-year-old hurler. 

Royals shortstop Alcides Escobar sprained his right knee when Athletics third baseman Brett Lawrie slid into second base spikes high. Benches momentarily cleared, but no punches were thrown.

FACTS OF THE DAY
The Royals honoured Athletics designated hitter Billy Butler with his 2014 American League Championship ring in his return to the stadium Friday.

The Royals' trio of Rawlings Gold Glove winners also received their awards. Salvador Perez and Eric Hosmer picked up their hardware for a second straight year and four-time winner Alex Gordon not only got his Gold Glove, but also the Platinum Glove representing of the best defensive player in the league.

Kris Bryant made his much-anticipated Cubs debut Friday, but fans were left wanting more after the third baseman went zero-for-four with three strikeouts in a 5-4 loss against the Padres.

A LOOK AHEAD
Chris Sale will be looking to build on his impressive Chicago White Sox debut when his team take on the Detroit Tigers. He will face a stiff test in the red-hot Tigers and Anibal Sanchez.

Clay Buchholz's Boston Red Sox are at the Baltimore Orioles again. The pitcher was promising on opening day before being drilled by the Yankees in his second start.
