It’s a sad day for bungled names aficionados with news that longtime UFC announcer Mike Goldberg will be leaving the company after Saturday’s UFC 207.

First reported by ENTImports, and confirmed by UFC President Dana White during a media scrum Thursday morning, Goldberg’s exit confirms rumours of his departure that have been circulating for weeks.

White has made not attempts to shut down those rumours, saying prior to UFC 206 that he was assembling a “dream team” of commentators, which would include the recently re-signed Joe Rogan – Goldberg’s co-commentator since 2002.

Goldberg started with the UFC all the way back in 1997 when he called the action for “UFC Japan: Ultimate Japan”, and has worked nearly all of the UFC events across PPV, Spike or Versus ever since.

Since the UFC’s broadcast deal with FOX, their workload has increasingly been confined to the marquee events.

The UFC, at time of writing, has made no official comment on a replacement for Goldberg.

Here, one more time, Mike Goldberg absolutely butchering the English language in a way that only he can.
