New Zealand captain Brendon McCullum is confident paceman Tim Southee will be available for the second Test against Australia.
A back injury led to Southee not bowling during the second innings in Brisbane, where the tourists were thrashed by 208 runs on Monday.
With the second Test in Perth starting on Friday, the 26-year-old must recover quickly to be fit.
McCullum is confident Southee, who took 1-70 in the first innings, will be available.
"He's started to come right pretty quickly which is a good sign. [Back injuries] can recover pretty quickly too," he told a news conference.
"We'll give him every chance. He's one of our leaders within the group, he's an outstanding bowler and he showed in that first innings he'll pose a lot of questions for them as well.
"Hopefully he'll play and we'll have a full squad to pick from in that second Test."
McCullum lamented the way his team started the series, as Australia went to lunch on day one at 100-0.
But the 34-year-old also paid tribute to man of the match David Warner, who made 163 and 116 in the Test.
"Australia bossed the game from the start, really. They thoroughly deserved their win," McCullum said.
"There's still some good signs for us, but we're going to have get better in a short space of time.
"I thought our big opportunity was on day one with the ball.
"There was a little bit of assistance there and we just weren't quite able to be as accurate or as patient as what we hoped and certainly not as proactive as what we normally are as well.
"We missed an opportunity there but that can be through a number of reasons, either a) you're not quite on song yourself or b) you can be knocked off your line and lengths.
"I think from David Warner in particular, Australia came at us pretty hard and were able to knock us off our lengths and we weren't able to settle quick enough. Credit to them and we've got to get better."
