Jump jockey legend Tony McCoy has announced that he will retire if he wins Saturday's Grand National atop favourite Shutthefrontdoor.

The 19-time champion jockey, whose only triumph in horse racing's most famous race came on Don't Push It in 2010, announced in February that this season would be his last.

It had previously been suggested that if he were to achieve a second triumph in the race at Aintree he would call it a day, and McCoy confirmed that is his intention.

"That's the plan [to retire if I win]," McCoy told BBC Sport. "There's mixed emotions because I love riding.

"If I don't win it'll probably be the end of April at Sandown. The wishful thinking is that I win the National.

"In some ways I'm kind of hoping it will be my last ever race meeting, in others not so much because I'll miss riding.

"To win the Grand National is a bit of a dream, but why shouldn't you dream? The Grand National is the most famous horse race in the world so if I was to finish it would be a great way to finish."
