Mayweather: 'Conor McGregor is more popular because of racism' image

His mantle as the pay-per-view king may be on its way to another fighter, one that plys his trade in another form of combat sports and Floyd Mayweather doesn't seem happy about it.

Irish superstar Conor McGregor may not have the bank balance of 'Money Mayweather' yet, but his pay-per-view figures are rising all the time, breaking records in the process.

McGregor's last two fights neared the 1 million pay-per-view mark, and there's no denying he sits as the most entertaining figure in combat sports.

But Mayweather isn't ready to dish out praise for McGregor's rise, telling FightHype.com the UFC Featherweight champion's ascent to the top of combat sports is a product of racism.

"They say he talks a lot of trash and people praise him for it, but when I did it, they say I'm cocky and arrogant. So biased! Like I said before, all I'm saying is this: I aint no racist, but I'm telling you racism still exists."

The undefeated boxer didnt stop there though, also claiming Ronda Rousey's rise in popularity wasn't down to her talent, with Laila Ali, herself a dominant champion not enjoying the same level of stardom.

"After Ronda Rousey fought nine, 10, 11 fights, it didn't even take that long.  She got all types of endorsements, movies, and everything," Mayweather said.

"Laila Ali did the same thing in better fashion. Ronda Rousey, she's a good looking woman when she put it on. Laila Ali is a drop-dead good looking woman. I mean a naturally beautiful woman and can kiss ass, but you never heard the media saying when I think she had somewhere around 10,11,12 fights that she was the baddest woman to ever fight on the planet."
