The Kings were crowned champions for the second time in three years on Friday after a 3-2 double-overtime victory against the New York Rangers sealed a 4-1 series success.

Defenceman Martinez was the unlikely goal hero in the 15th minute of the second overtime period, but he was quick to praise the entire team and highlight the camaraderie that exists at the franchise.

"We've got an unbelievable group in the room," said the 26-year-old.

"(General manager) Dean (Lombardi) has always said that it’s important we have to play hockey well together, but we also have to like each other.

"All the guys in that locker room, we love each other. It's an unbelievable group.

"We all live within a two-minute drive of each other. You don't even have to drive, you can walk or ride your bike.

"It's just a testament to the character and quality of human beings that we have in our room. It’s unbelievable."

On his winning goal, Martinez added: "I was just fortunate for it to come on my stick and able to put it in.

"It's not about me or my goal. It's about the team win."
