Feliciano Lopez heads to Quito for the Ecuador Open as favourite after showing fine form in Melbourne.

The Spanish left-hander reached the Australian Open last 16, saving match points in two of his three victories.

Lopez, ranked 14th in the world, is the top seed for the ATP 250 clay-court tournament in Ecuador.

The tournament was formerly held in Vina del Mar, Chile.

Lopez endured a disappointing 2014 on clay, finishing with a 5-7 win-loss record on the surface.

His big serve means he is better suited to hard and grass courts, but he should have enough class to challenge in Ecuador.

Colombian world number 32 Santiago Giraldo is the second seed.

The other six seeds are Fernando Verdasco, Martin Klizan, Paolo Lorenzi, Thomaz Bellucci, Dusan Lajovic and Victor Estrella Burgos.

Lajovic, the Serbian seventh seed, is the highest ranked player in Lopez's quarter of the draw.

Klizan is a player to watch given his form on clay in 2014.

The Slovak left-hander enjoyed a 23-6 win-loss record on the surface last year, including winning the title in Munich.

Klizan also has a relatively friendly draw, with the eighth-seeded Estrella Burgos the biggest threat in his quarter.
