Armstrong, who was stripped of his seven Tour de France victories after doping accusations, needled his way into the discussion after Froome surged to a dominant win in the first mountain stage of the 2015 race.

The Englishman boosted his lead over second placed Tejay Van Garderen to 2 min 52 seconds while Nairo Quintana is third 3 min 9 seconds back.

Both Quintana and Van Garderen struggled on the stage, with prerace favourite Alberto Contador losing 2 min 50 and last year’s winner Vincenzo Nibali dropping 4 min 25.

Froome’s teammate Richie Porte finished second on the stage 59 seconds behind his leader.

It was all a bit suspect for Armstrong, who offered these juicy tweets in the aftermath.

Despite what his first tweet looked like, Armstrong denied he was accusing Sky of doping.

He later responded to a critic, saying “I’m not accusing anyone. In fact, quite the opposite. I’m not interested (nor do I have the credibility) to opine there.”

True, he doesn’t.
