Lancashire stars revel in Flintoff return image

The iconic former England all-rounder played professionally for the first time since 2009 on Sunday as a member of the Lancashire team taking on Worcestershire Royals in the NatWest T20 Blast.

Flintoff did not bat, but claimed 2-36 with the ball as his side won by 50 runs.

And Flintoff's team-mates were thrilled to have the opportunity to play alongside the 36-year-old.

"The 2005 Ashes is something that I will always remember watching and seeing how well played in that series," said Jos Buttler, himself now an England star.

"He's a hero for a lot of people and it was a great experience to be on the same pitch and in the same dressing room."

Former South Africa batsman Ashwell Prince was also unequivocally positive when discussing Flintoff's comeback.

He added: "It's good to have the big man back. He's always a crowd favourite and I think he will be happy with his performance today, getting a few wickets as well.

"He must have been a little bit nervous starting but he dragged it back nicely towards the end.

"He didn't seem nervous at all but we have all played a lot of cricket and you know he will have a few nerves inside.

"He's an experienced player and you only get better as the competition goes on. He's a character, the game needs characters and we all love characters like him. To have him in the dressing room it's happy days.

"He's put in the hard work, he comes training - it has not just come about because of someone coming up with the idea.

"The guy has been prepared to do the work, and we knew that he’s got the experience and with a bit of game time in the second team that eventually he would get his place in the team."
