Kjetil Jansrud can take a step closer to the men's downhill title at the FIS World Cup when the eighth event of the season takes place in Garmisch.
The Norwegian sits on 457 points atop the standings in the discipline, with Italian Dominik Paris (312) and Matthias Mayer (296) his nearest rivals.
Jansrud could only manage a 14th-place finish at the previous stop, in Saalbach on Saturday.
But he went unpunished as Paris also struggled, with Austria's Mayer taking the win and climbing up the standings.
Frenchman Guillermo Fayed had been in contention as well heading to Austria, but he ended up 11th.
Jansrud is also in contention for the overall title, chasing the dominant Marcel Hirscher and trailing the Austrian by 116 points.
But he needs a return to form, although the downhill title is his to lose with just three races remaining.
