Kjetil Jansrud is aware that he needs a swift return to form in the downhill at Wengen this weekend to keep the pressure on the FIS Alpine Skiing World Cup overall leader Marcel Hirscher.
Norwegian Jansrud leads the downhill standings after a superb start to the season that saw him collect wins in Lake Louise and Beaver Creek, before finishing runner-up in Val Gardena.
However, a disappointing 17th-place finish in Santa Caterina last month dented his hopes of catching Hirscher.
Jansrud, whose four World Cup wins this campaign represent more than he managed in the past six seasons combined, is now targeting a strong showing at the Swiss resort on Sunday to boost his chances of collecting the overall globe.
"The guy [Hirscher] doesn't make any mistakes and he keeps grabbing 100 points every time, so it's going to be tough keeping up with him," Jansrud told the FIS official website.
"I'm only 200 points back, so if I can have an awesome week here, then I'll be back in the game."
Among those looking to prevent Jansrud from returning to the top of the podium is Dominik Paris.
The Italian is 74 points behind Jansrud in the downhill standings and is eyeing a first World Cup victory of the season to cut that gap.
The previous two downhill races have both produced winners from United States.
Steven Nyman was the victor at Val Gardena for his third career World Cup victory, with all of those coming at the same venue.
Travis Ganong subsequently followed by clinching top spot in Santa Caterina last time out.
Those results left the American duo in joint third, 103 points behind Jansrud.
Others hoping to be in contention for top spot include Matthias Mayer, who was fastest in the first training session in Wengen, Guillermo Fayed and home-favourite Beat Feuz.
