The Canadian was due to take her place as part of the UAE Royals team for the inaugural edition of the revolutionary new tournament, which gets under way on Friday.

However, she has now been forced out of action following an injury sustained in training on Monday.

In a statement released via the IPTL, Bouchard said: "I'm really disappointed I will be unable to compete in the IPTL this year due to an injury that I recently suffered in practice.

"I was excited to be part of the first year and represent the team from Dubai.

"I wish all of the players the best of luck and I sincerely hope to be healthy and a part of the IPTL next year."

Bouchard has enjoyed a breakthrough season after reaching the semi-finals of the Australian and French Opens and the final at Wimbledon, where she was beaten by Petra Kvitova.

Her place in the Royals' line-up will be taken by Frenchwoman Kristina Mladenovic.
