David Ferrer made it back-to-back title wins, beating Kei Nishikori in the Mexican Open final on Saturday.
The Spaniard clinched his 10th straight win and third ATP World Tour title of the year with a 6-3 7-5 victory on the hard courts at the ATP 500 event.
Ferrer has now won 24 ATP titles – including four in Acapulco – and improved to an 18-1 win-loss in 2015.
That one loss was to Nishikori, who will rise to number four in the world, at the Australian Open.
Nishikori hit 22 winners and 40 unforced errors, while Ferrer was far more consistent with numbers of 11 and 21 respectively.
The loss ended Nishikori's eight-match winning run and marked his fifth loss in 13 ATP finals.
Ferrer started slowly and had to recover from 15-40 down to hold serve in the opening game.
The veteran capitalised to take a 3-1 lead before giving up his break of serve in the seventh game, only to regain it in the next for a 5-3 lead.
Ferrer had no trouble serving out the set, holding serve to love.
He started the second by taking a double-break 3-0 lead, only for Nishikori to surge back and level at 4-4.
Ferrer broke for 5-4 and failed to serve it out, but he made no mistake on the second time of asking to seal the title.
