Hirscher set to seal overall crown in giant slalom image

Marcel Hirscher will look to continue his charge for his fourth FIS Alpine Skiing World Cup overall crown, when the final giant slalom race of the season takes place on Saturday.

Meribel, France has hosted two of the final four events, with Hirscher's overall rival Kjetil Jansrud winning the downhill on Wednesday and finishing second in Thursday's super-G.

Hirscher, though, was fourth in the super-G.

And while Jansrud (1264) has significantly closed the gap on Hirscher (1298) for the title, the Austrian is still in pole position - given the Norwegian's inactivity in slalom events this season.

Jansrud has only raced in the slalom twice for the season - both times in the giant variety for a best finish of 15th - meaning Hirscher remains poised to take the overall gong.

Not only that, Hirscher (640 points) has dominated the giant slalom event, with next best Alexis Pinturault (455) and Ted Ligety (422) well back.

If Jansrud's bid for the overall crown fails in the two slalom events, he still departs the season with two crystal globes - winning the downhill and super-G titles.

No skier has ever won four overall crowns on the FIS Alpine Skiing World Cup circuit before, with Hirscher also winning in the past three years.
