Daniel Vettori has been appointed to his second head coaching role, the retired New Zealand spinner set to lead Big Bash League side Brisbane Heat.

Vettori, 36, retired following the Black Caps' Cricket World Cup final loss to Australia on Sunday, but already moved further into the coaching ranks by signing with Heat.

Already coach of Indian Premier League franchise Royal Challengers Bangalore, Vettori picked up another job at a T20 side he previously played for - Heat - when he signed with the Australian outfit for three years.

"It is a big job but one that I am excited about tackling," said Vettori, who led Royal Challengers to five wins in 14 matches in his inaugural season as an IPL coach in 2014.

"I found my initial experience as the coach of Bangalore in the IPL to be very rewarding last year and so I am grateful to them for allowing me this additional opportunity to develop my coaching skills and background.

"I have greatly enjoyed my time as a player with Brisbane and have a lot of respect for Queensland Cricket as an organisation, going back to my very early days with them when Twenty20 was still seen as a bit of a novelty.

"The BBL's enormous success in the past few seasons means that it is a highly important part of what we do nowadays, especially in creating new fans and driving the growth of cricket the world over."
