Healy blames WAGS for Ashes humiliation image

Australia are on the verge of losing the Ashes after being skittled for just 60 in their first innings at Trent Bridge on Thursday. The capitulation represented the fewest balls faced in a first innings by any Test side in history and saw renewed calls for captain Michael Clarke to retire.

But Healy believes he knows exactly why the side is struggling.

“All their partners are here and some of the most respected cricketers I played with hated that distraction,” Healy said during Channel 9’s commentary.

“They weren't allowed on tour until after the series had been won.

“Your mind needs to be completely focused on it. Cricket is a sport that requires complete concentration.

“You need everything going for you and I'm not sure they're pushing for that hard enough.

"Their hearts might not be that strong ... are they together as a team? Do they fragment from here? Do they meet and talk about it tonight? Will they confront it?"

 It’s not the first time WAGS have been accused of disrupting the Australian cricket side, with the 2005 Ashes loss also blamed on players’ significant others.

In 2010, Michael Clarke left a tour of New Zealand to be with then fiancée Lara Bingle.
