Scotland have sent Majid Haq home from the Cricket World Cup after the off-spinner violated their code of conduct by making a race-related remark on Twitter.

Prior to his country's defeat to Sri Lanka on Wednesday, in which he did not feature, Haq - Scotland's leading wicket-taker and appearance maker - tweeted: "Always tougher when your [sic] in the minority!! #colour #race"

The post was later deleted, although a Cricket Scotland statement confirmed Haq would miss his country's final game of the tournament.

"Following a breach of Cricket Scotland's internal code of conduct, international team member Majid Haq is travelling home from the ICC World Cup," the organisation stated on their website.

"No further statement will be issued until internal processes have been completed in due course."

Scotland have lost all five of their Pool A matches so far and face co-hosts Australia on Saturday.
