Formula One world champion Lewis Hamilton is not about to take advantage of being the sport's number one driver this season.
Having claimed his second world crown in 2014, the Mercedes ace heads into the upcoming campaign with the privilege of being able to display the number one on his car.
However, he will not enforce that right, preferring instead to stick with the number 44 that has accompanied his success throughout his career so far.
"Everyone can use number one when they win the championship, but it's irrelevant for me," Hamilton told the media, as reported by Reuters, after completing pre-season testing in Barcelona on Saturday.
"Forty four means more to me than number one. It doesn't mean I'm not number one.
"The 44 is my family number. It's the number I had when I first started racing. I won my first [karting] championship with 44. It means something to me."
The new F1 season begins in Australia on March 15.
