Hamburg will be Germany's bid for the 2024 Games, the nation's Olympic committee announced on Monday.
The vote means the country's capital city Berlin, which hosted the Games in 1916 and 1936, misses out.
The German Olympic Committee (DOSB) is expected to ratify its vote on Saturday.
Hamburg will be up against Rome and Boston, and likely several others, in the bidding process.
Munich 1972 was Germany's most recent hosting of the Olympics.
