As play began Saturday in California, the PGA Tour's Northern Trust Open had a definite international feel. Part of it was because the leader after 36 holes was Retief Goosen of South Africa.

Also among players in the top five places on the Riviera Country Club leaderboard were Argentina's Angel Cabrera and Canada's Graham DeLaet.

Among Saturday's early starters, South Korea's Sang-Moon Bae made a charge with a strong 4-under score through seven holes. Spain's Sergio Garcia also was on the course early, and Fiji's Vijay Singh in contention as well.

Goosen started his day at 6-under.

Tied for second were DeLaet and Americans Ryan Moore and Justin at 5-under. DeLaet equaled Hunter Mahan for Friday's best round at 67. Cabrera's 68 on Friday had him two shots off the pace.

Stalking Cabrera was Bubba Watson, the defending champion who began Saturday tied for sixth at 3-under with Derek Fathauer (73), Jordan Spieth (70), JB Holmes (69) and Paul Casey (69).

Singh slipped from being tied after 18 holes with Goosen, thanks to a second-round 74.
