Severin Freund was the victor of a shortened FIS Ski Jumping World Cup meet in Kuopio, while joint-third place was enough for Stefan Kraft to go top of the overall standings.

High winds at the Finnish venue caused disruption to the event and meant that the competition was shortened to just one jump.

And German Freund was the main beneficiary, a score of 139.9 points proving enough to beat Anders Bardal (135.9) to top spot.

"It came in handy that the [second] jump was cancelled," he told German TV station ARD.

"These are important points for the World Cup. It is very exciting."

Kraft collected 60 points after his score of 132.5 was matched by Simon Ammann, leaving both men to complete the podium.

Peter Prevc held a narrow seven-point lead in the overall leaderboard over Kraft heading in Tuesday's meet.

However, the Slovenian placed a disappointing 17th meaning he slips behind Kraft - winner in Lahti last weekend - and Freund in the World Cup standings.
