Mother Nature got the upper hand as the PGA Tour tried to get under way at Torrey Pines Golf Club in San Diego.

Fog prevented an on-time start for the Farmers Insurance Open, delaying first-round play several times.

After an initial one-hour delay for Tiger Woods, Phil Mickelson and others in the field, players were brought off the courses again Thursday. Play resumed about 2:45 p.m. ET

Nine players were on the course when play halted. There was little organizers could do but wait for the fog to burn off. Best guess for resumption of play would have players three hours behind schedule.

Sure enough ... "Tiger Woods was in a fog Thursday, and so was everyone else at the Farmers Insurance Open." That was an early lead from the Associated Press.
