Anna Fenninger retained the overall FIS Alpine Skiing World Cup title and the giant slalom globe after outlasting rival Tina Maze in a dramatic season-ending meet in Meribel.
Maze's fourth-placed finish in Saturday's slalom - coupled with Fenninger's 23rd - meant she held a narrow 18-point lead over her rival in the overall standings heading in Sunday's action.
The drama continued after the first run at the French venue as Fenninger, whose 86-point advantage over Austrian compatriot Eva-Maria Brem made her the overwhelming favourite to keep hold of her giant slalom title, led Maze by a mere 0.27 seconds.
However, Slovenian Maze was unable to match her valiant effort on the second attempt as Fenninger topped the podium with a combined time of two minutes and 26.91 seconds.
Brem rounded off a consistent campaign in the discipline by finishing runner-up, while Maze had to settle for third in the race and second in the overall leaderboard by just 22 points - American Lindsey Vonn completing the top three.
Fenninger becomes the first Austrian to retain the overall title since Petra Kronberger in 1992, while she is the second woman from the nation to win back-to-back giant slalom globes.
