Roger Federer has decided to sit out the Miami Open this season as he revealed his schedule for the first half of 2015.

The 17-time grand slam champion announced before the Australian Open that he would play in fewer ATP World Tour events in 2015 in an effort to prolong his stunning career.

Subsequently, Federer has opted not to participate in the ATP 1000 event in Miami - part of nine masters events on the calendar - in March.

The 33-year-old, a two-time victor in Miami, has not been in action since he was surprisingly eliminated by Andreas Seppi in the Australian Open third round.

Federer confirmed he will return to action at the Dubai Tennis Championships later this month, before playing the Indian Wells Masters in April.

Following that, Federer will play in Monte Carlo, Madrid and Rome as part of his clay-court preparations for the start of the French Open in May.

The Swiss will then seek an eighth success at the Gerry Weber Open in June in his only tournament on grass before Wimbledon.
