The Texan, preparing for his final outing on home soil, has already announced that this is his final season in the sport, but his involvement in the second half of the 2014 campaign may be limited.
A failure to rediscover form was cited as Edwards' reason to bow out, a fact highlighted by the 40-year-old picking up just eight points this year.
The two-time World Superbike champion plans to ride at the British GP later this month and in the last grand prix of the season, but is non-committal over the other six races.
"The rest of the year is going to be hit or miss," the Forward Racing rider told Autosport.
"The races I definitely am going to are Silverstone and Valencia.
"Other than that, we'll just have to play it by ear."
