A late Sunrisers Hyderabad rally fell short as Delhi Daredevils' Indian Premier League revival continued with a frantic four-run triumph on Saturday.
Having avoided a third straight defeat by beating Kings XI Punjab on Wednesday, the Daredevils appeared in control of their latest contest when they reduced Sunrisers to 129-6 in the 17th over of their reply to Delhi's 167-4.
JP Duminy had starred for the Daredevils, hitting a half-century with the bat and taking 4-17 with the ball, yet his efforts were almost in vain as Karn Sharma (19) and Ashish Reddy (15) put Sunrisers within touching distance of their target.
However, a dramatic final over in which Reddy was run out and superb fielding by Mayank Agarwal prevented Karn from tying the game with what look a certain six off the penultimate delivery saw Delhi cling on.
Surnisers finished on 163-8, falling just short.
Earlier, Mayank (1) fell to Bhuvneshwar Kumar (1-21) in the third over of the Daredevils' innings, but Shreyas Iyer and Duminy took the game by the scruff of the neck with an impressive display of hitting in a fine stand of 78.
Iyer's 60 came off just 40 balls and featured five sixes, as he pushed Delhi towards three figures before being caught out by a slower ball from Praveen Kumar (1-38).
Duminy - who found frequent success with the pull shot in his 54 - appeared well set to guide the Daredevils to an imposing score but was dismissed by South Africa team-mate Dale Steyn (1-27) as he dragged onto his stumps with an attempted lap sweep.
David Warner then produced a stunning leaping catch at the midwicket boundary to end the innings of Yuvraj Singh (9), leaving Angelo Mathews (15) and Kedar Jadhav (19) unbeaten in the middle at the end of the innings.
Shikhar Dhawan (18) and Warner (28) put Sunrisers on the front foot in their response with a partnership of 50, only for the offbreak bowling of Duminy to spin the game in Delhi's favour.
Hyderabad's challenge looked to have ended when Duminy removed Ravi Bopara (41) and Eoin Morgan (1) in the space of three balls, yet the four boundaries shared between Karn and Reddy put Sunrisers in a position to claim a dramatic win.
Their victory seemed set to be sealed when Karn launched a shot towards the point boundary with the penultimate delivery of the innings but Mayank rescued the game by brilliantly palming the ball away from the boundary rope to save four runs.
Karn lost his wicket with the final ball as Delhi sealed a narrow victory.
