The league-leading Ducks, who boast a 27-7-5 record, found themselves 2-0 down less than 12 minutes into the contest after a Mikhail Grabovski tip-in and power play snap shot from Nicklas Backstrom both found their intended target.

But it was all Anaheim from then on as goals in each period from Andrew Cogliano, Saku Koivu and Hampus Lindholm ensured their side completed a gusty turnaround and extended their franchise-record winning streak to nine games.

The Ducks' day got even better when the Pacific Division's second-placed Los Angeles got routed by Dallas 5-2, ensuring the Kings fell five points behind Anaheim.

Chicago increased their buffer on top of the Central Division to five points after they brushed aside New Jersey 5-2 and their nearest divisional rivals St Louis suffered a 4-3 shootout loss to Calgary.

Patrick Sharp opened up the scoring for the Blackhawks when he netted the first of his two goals for the match seven minutes before the first change.

Stephen Gionta's deflected shot got the Devils back on level terms six minutes into the second stanza but the Blackhawks responded via wrist shots courtesy of Patrick Kane and Bryan Bickell to lead 3-1 heading into the final term.

And while it took Michael Ryder less than a minute to reduced New Jersey's deficit to 3-2, the Blackhawks emphatically ended the contest with further goals from Sharp and Nick Leddy to complete the comprehensive victory - their first against the Devils since April 2010.

Meanwhile, Ottawa caused a massive upset as they smashed high-flying Pittsburgh 5-0 to bring the Penguins' seven-game winning run to a grinding halt.

After leading 2-0 at the second change, the Senators put the result beyond doubt in the third period when they piled on three goals, including Erik Karlsson's 10th of the season.

Ottawa were also well-served by Craig Anderson who made 27 saves for his second shutout of the campaign and 24th of his career.

In other results, Boston hammered Nashville 6-2, Colorado fell 5-4 to San Jose in a shootout, Tampa Bay obliterated Florida 6-1 and Philadelphia eased past Minnesota 4-1.

Elsewhere, Buffalo beat Phoenix 2-1 in overtime, the New York Rangers scored a 2-1 shootout win against Toronto, Edmonton smashed Winnipeg 6-2, Columbus pipped Carolina 4-3, and the New York Islanders defeated Detroit 3-0.
