Top seed and defending champion Guillermo Garcia-Lopez was sent crashing out the ATP Grand Prix Hassan II by wildcard Lamine Ouahab on Thursday.
Spaniard Garcia-Lopez was the overwhelming favourite for the second-round contest in Casablanca considering 289 places separate him from Ouahab in the world rankings.
However, the home favourite - ranked 313rd in the world - shocked his more high-profile opponent in a 6-3 6-3 triumph.
Ouahab, who also shocked Robin Haase in round one, made the break in just the fourth game of the match and, although he saw two set-points go begging when leading 5-2, he served out to love to take the opener.
The 30-year-old showed some nerves in the second when he failed to serve out when again leading 5-2, but he broke back in the last game to progress in 90 minutes.
Ouahab's reward is a meeting with Daniel Gimeno-Traver, who was beating Mikhail Kukushkin 6-1 4-1 before the seventh retired from the match.
There were no such problems for third seed Jiri Vesely in his 7-6 (9-7) 6-3 beating of Mikhail Youzhny, while Aljaz Bedene - playing his first tournament since becoming a UK citizen - awaits in the last eight after he defeated Arthur de Greef 6-2 6-3.
