The Capital One Cup is awarded each year to a men’s and women’s athletic program. Those programs receive a trophy, a combined $400,000 in student-athlete scholarships and are honored at the ESPYS in July.
The Tigers pulled into first after winning their first national championship in football since 1981. Stanford won the men’s national championship in soccer with a 5-4 victory against Wake Forest on Dec. 11. Each program has 78 points. Stanford’s women won the national championship in volleyball and lead that race with 83 points.
