The Vancouver Canucks responded to giving up a late lead to edge the Chicago Blackhawks 5-4 after overtime in the NHL on Wednesday.
Daniel Sedin was eventually the hero for the Canucks, scoring with a wrist shot one minute 20 seconds into the additional period at United Center.
The Canucks had threatened to throw away victory, conceding two goals in the final three minutes after holding a 4-2 lead.
But Sedin stepped up and his second goal of the game proved to be crucial.
A three-goal second period had put the Canucks in control, with Linden Vey, Bo Horvat and Zack Kassian scoring after Patrick Kane's opener.
Marian Hossa pulled the Blackhawks back into the contest before Sedin appeared to have his team headed for victory.
But a goal from Brandon Saad and Hossa – the latter with 55 seconds remaining – gave the Blackhawks all the momentum before Sedin turned that around in overtime.
Blake Comeau returned from injury and impressed as the Pittsburgh Penguins crushed the Detroit Red Wings 4-1.
In his first game since December 22 last year, Comeau scored once and provided an assist.
Goals from Patric Hornqvist, Comeau, David Perron and Nick Spaling had the Penguins cruising with a 4-0 lead by midway through the second period.
Joel Ward delivered the Washington Capitals an overtime goal to see them battle past the San Jose Sharks 5-4.
Jay Beagle scored twice for the Capitals and Brent Burns netted two for the Sharks, but Ward stepped up in OT.
